Delta Police Foil Kidnap Plot, Arrest 184 Internet Fraud Suspects, Recover 247 Rounds of Ammunition

The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its fight against crime, with the arrest of a notorious kidnap gang and 184 suspected internet fraudsters in separate coordinated operations.

Acting on intelligence directives from Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) foiled a major kidnapping plot targeting high-profile individuals in Sapele and Oghara. The gang, led by one Owei Abebo, alias "Adusa", was arrested along with key accomplices in Delta and Edo States. The suspects include spiritualists believed to have fortified the criminals with charms and ritual items. A total of 247 live rounds of ammunition for a Submachine Gun (SMG) were recovered from their hideout.

In another operation on July 21, 2025, police operatives in collaboration with the Nigerian Army raided a residence in Post Housing Estate, Effurun. The raid led to the arrest of 184 suspected internet fraudsters. Items seized included 273 laptops, 97 smartphones, an iPad, chargers, and Wi-Fi routers.

The police commissioner praised the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, reaffirming the command’s commitment to making Delta State hostile to all forms of criminal activity. Investigations are ongoing.
