DELTA STATE POLICE FOIL KIDNAPPING PLOT, RECOVER ARMS
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command has foiled a suspected kidnapping plot and arrested suspected cultists, recovering several firearms in the process.
In a statement, the Command said that on August 13, 2024, the DPO of Oghara Division received credible information that suspected kidnappers planned to kidnap guests attending the graduation ceremony of Delta State Polytechnic Oghara. The DPO swiftly mobilized operatives, leading to a gun duel with the suspects, who escaped with gunshot injuries. One AK-47 rifle, one magazine, one English pump action gun, and one locally made cut-to-size gun were recovered.
In a separate incident on August 14, 2024, a police anti-crime patrol team intercepted a motorcycle carrying two suspects, Ovoke Benedict and Fredrick Urhoborume, both students of Delta State Polytechnic Otefe Oghara. A search revealed a locally made cut-to-size gun with six live cartridges. Preliminary investigation suggests they are members of the Arrow Barger Confraternity.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the efforts of the DPOs and urged them to continue embracing community-based policing and proactive approaches to curb crime and criminality in the state.
