FSARS REFORM: JUDGE US BY THIS COVENANT WE ARE SIGNING WITH YOU- FORCE POLICE PRO FRANK MBA APPEALS TO NIGERIAN YOUTHS

The Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer Frank Mba has appealed to the Nigerian youths to exercise patience with the ongoing police reforms in the country, especially as regards the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit, SARS.

Frank Mba made this appeal on Tuesday, October 6, while speaking on an Instagram Live session with Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola A.K.A Naira Marley.

The Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu had on Sunday, October 4 banned men of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, and other tactical units of the police from carrying out routine patrols following the public outcry against incessant extortions and harassment of innocent youths.

But the ban did not appease the Nigerian youths because similar announcements have been made over the years, and cases of police brutality and extortion have not ceased.

However, the Force PRO Frank Mba while speaking to Naira Marley on Instagram live told Nigerians to hold the police by their promise this time.

"Judge us by this covenant we are signing with you. Hold us accountable. Right now, we would begin policing the police," he said.

Frank Mba said the work of the Special Anti Robbery Squad officers is important to safeguard the lives of the citizens against armed robbers, and other violent crimes.

"Those who call for the disbandment of sars probably have ulterior motives. We need them to respond to violent crime like armed robbery," Mba said.

He, however, restated the need to weed out the bad eggs in the police force "because they are creating problems for the hardworking and good police men serving this country diligently."

When Naira Marley asked him if it was legal to take photos and videos of the police during altercations, Mba said citizens could take photos and videos as long as it is safe to do so.

He, however, warned the youths not to go confrontational with an armed security officer.

Naira Marley had earlier planned to lead the youths to protest against SARS on Tuesday, October 6. However, the Minister of Youths, Sunday Dare, urged him against the decision saying their grievances are currently being addressed at the highest level of government.
