GOVERNOR WILLIE OBIANO GRANTS AMNESTY TO 100 PRISONERS IN ANAMBRA

The Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano has granted amnesty to 100  persons serving various terms in correctional facilities in the state between January 2020 to April 2021.


The reprieve was granted to inmates convicted of simple offences and have served more than half of their sentences and are of good behaviour.

Inmates who are suffering from infectious and terminal diseases, as well as those whose sentences also have options of fine. 

 were also considered for reprieve, Barrister Dr. Mrs Uju Nwogu, the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice said on Thursday.

This development is coming on the heels of rise in attacks on police facilities in Southern part of the country, including the recent attack and release of over 1800 prisoners from the Owerri Correctional facility.
