COVID-19: RELIEF AS CBN, BANKS, AGREE TO SUSPEND STAFF LAYOFF
The Central Bank of Nigeria and the banks in the country have agreed to suspend the layoff of bank workers.
A statement signed by the Apex Bank’s Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor said the agreement was reached at a special meeting of the Bankers’ Committee held on May 2, 2020.
At the meeting, the banker’s committee deliberated on the issue of the operating costs of Nigerian banks and the global economic challenges caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
According to Okorafor, the stakeholders at the meeting decided that “no bank in Nigeria shall retrench or lay off any staff of any cadre (including full time and part-time).
Henceforth, banks must obtain the approval of the CBN before relieving any staff from duty.
