GUINEAN SPECIAL FORCES ARREST PRESIDENT ALPHA CONDÉ

Reports indicate that Guinean special forces on Sunday arrested President Alpha Condé following a heavy gun battle that ensued in the Presidential palace in Conakry, the Guinean capital.


In a short statement on State TV, the troops revealed they have dissolved the constitution and the Government of Guinea.


An unidentified soldier surrounded by eight other armed troops said in the broadcast that they planned to form a transitional government and would give further details later.


Earlier on Sunday, it was reported that a heavy gun duel emanated at the Presidential Palace with sources disclosing that an elite National Army unit led by former French legionnaire, Mamady Doumbouya, was behind the violence.
