IGP SERVE ARREST WARRANT AGAINST AKWA IBOM PDP GUBER CANDIDATE
The Inspector General of Police has received a warrant of arrest issued against Umo Eno, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom state.
The IGP is now expected to effect the arrest.
Recall that a chief magistrate court in Wuse zone 6, federal capital territory (FCT), had ordered the arrest of Eno on December 23, 2022.
Emmanuel Iyanna, senior magistrate, issued the warrant after convicting the governorship candidate on charges bordering on “cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property".
Information available indicates that Eno failed to attend proceedings hence the trial was conducted in his absence, leading to his conviction.
The complainant in the suit marked CR/94/2022 is one Edet Godwin Etim, Meanwhile, Eno’s campaign organisation has denied knowledge of the suit.
The warrant has been served on the IGP via the commissioner of police (legal).
Eno, who is the preferred candidate of Udom Emmanuel, governor of Akwa Ibom, won the party’s primary held in May 2022.
He secured 993 votes, while a total of 1,018 delegates participated in the election.
He defeated his closest challengers — Onofiok Luke, a member of the house of representatives, who got two votes; and Bassey Albert, a member of the Senate, who polled one vote.
