Islamic Cleric, Five Others Remanded Over Alleged Ritual Murder of Kwara Student

An Ilorin Magistrate Court in Kwara State has remanded an acclaimed Islamic cleric, Abdulrahman Bello, and five others at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre over the alleged murder of Adefalu Hafsat Yetunde, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education.

The suspects, including Ahmed Abdulwasiu (41), Suleiman Muhyideen (28), and Jamiu Uthman (29), face a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, possession of human parts, and armed robbery.

Their offenses violate Sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code Law, Section 2 of the Kwara State Prohibition Law on Human Parts (2018), and Section 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, CAP R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Investigation and Confession

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Abdulrahman Bello allegedly committed the crime with the knowledge and consent of his co-accused.

The charge sheet states:

“During the investigation at the State CID, Ilorin, Abdulrahman Bello confessed to committing the act alongside Ahmed Abdulwasiu, Suleiman Muhyideen, Jamiu Uthman, and Abdulrahman Jamiu—all members of the same occultic group—leading to their arrest.”

Further investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly killed the victim for ritual purposes, robbing her of her jewelry and other valuables. The State CID also discovered that the syndicate has been responsible for the ritual killings of unsuspecting citizens in Kwara State.

“On February 14, 2025, at about 14:00 hours, the case was transferred from ‘C’ Divisional Headquarters, Oja-Oba, Ilorin, to the Anti-Robbery Section, State CID, for a thorough investigation.”

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
