Niger State Governor Imposes Curfew to Tackle Insecurity in Minna
Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Minna, the state capital, in response to escalating insecurity.
The curfew, announced during a security stakeholders' meeting held at the Government House on Tuesday, restricts the movement of commercial motorcycles and tricycles between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The governor, however, noted that medical emergencies would be exempted from the restriction.
"The recent security challenges in the state capital have reached an alarming level, and we can no longer sit idly while criminals terrorise innocent citizens. This curfew is part of the urgent steps we are taking to restore peace," Bago stated.
He also directed district, village, and ward heads to maintain accurate records of all visitors in their communities. He warned that any residence found to be accommodating criminals or drug syndicates would face demolition.
The development follows a surge in violent incidents, including thuggery and killings, which have left residents in fear. Governor Bago reiterated his administration’s resolve to restore law and order in the state capital.
