PLANNED PROTEST: NIGERIA POLICE FORCE FROWNS AT VANDALIZING GOVERNMENT PROPERTIES, WARNS PROTESTERS

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning against vandalism of government properties in the wake of a planned nationwide protest. This follows the circulation of a viral video on TikTok, where an individual incited violence against state critical infrastructures, law enforcement agencies, and private individuals in Plateau State.

The video, uploaded by a TikTok user identified as "Dan_Mallam68," shows the suspect urging the public to attack petrol stations, security operatives, and destroy critical state and private infrastructures. Following this, the police, with support from relevant stakeholders, traced the suspect's location to Ahmadu Bello Way. On July 28, 2024, Suleiman Yakubu, a 34-year-old resident of Jos North, was apprehended. During interrogation, Yakubu confessed to being the individual in the video but could not explain his motivations for such incitements. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

As the planned nationwide protest looms, the police have received credible intelligence that certain individuals are planning to infiltrate the protest and cause chaos. The police urge the leaders and organizers of the protest to collaborate closely, providing vital information such as contact details, locations, routes, and schedules. This will enable effective deployment of personnel to ensure the safety and security of all participants and the general public.

The Nigeria Police emphasizes that any attempts by mischief-makers to destabilize the country or incite violence will not be tolerated. The police remain committed to maintaining peace and order and urge everyone to exercise their right to protest responsibly and within the bounds of the law.
