Police arrest 41-year-old for defiling 13-year-old in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a 41-year-old man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in Ogborikoko. The arrest was confirmed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, in a statement released on Friday.

According to Edafe's statement, the victim's mother had entrusted her children to the suspect's care while she went to the market. The suspect, a neighbor, was asked to watch over the children in her absence. However, instead of fulfilling this responsibility, the suspect allegedly entered the neighboring house where the 13-year-old girl was present and violently sexually assaulted her.

The police statement highlighted the importance of parental caution and vigilance when choosing caregivers for children. It urged parents to carefully consider who they entrust with their children's safety, especially in their absence. The statement specifically noted the incident in Ogborikoko, where the woman's trust in her neighbor was tragically violated. Edafe clarified that the victim's age is 13, correcting an earlier statement where he had mistakenly said she was 16.
