Rising Insecurity: Ogun Chief Killed in Brutal Farm Attack

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the murder of Ogunleye Olaegbe, a 49-year-old traditional chief and Baale of Oke-Oha Village, by suspected herdsmen in the Imeko Afon Local Government Area.

Olaegbe was reportedly attacked on his farm on Wednesday. Villagers later discovered his lifeless body in a pool of blood around noon, showing signs of multiple gunshot wounds. Reports indicate he was dragged from his farm and left in a nearby bush.

Residents have expressed alarm over what they describe as a recurring pattern of violent attacks by herdsmen in the area.

In a statement, the Ogun State Police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the attack, stating that unidentified gunmen suspected to be herdsmen targeted the traditional chief while he worked on his farm.

“An initial assessment revealed that Ogunleye Olaegbe was shot in the chest before being abandoned in the bush,” Odutola said.

Police officers and other security personnel responded to the scene, taking photographs and evacuating the body to Ayetoro General Hospital for an autopsy. A preliminary investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits.

Odutola assured the public that security measures have been intensified in the area to prevent further unrest.
