INTERNET DATING FRAUDSTER BAGS ONE YEAR IMPRISONMENT
A man identified as Moses Igweneme has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment for charges related to a romance scam, conspiracy, and money laundering.
A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt sentenced Igweneme to one - year imprisonment for swindling one Chantai Meadery, a Swiss national in February 2018.
Igweneme was said to have agreed to start a relationship and build a future with Meadery, who he met on a dating application.
Initially, the defendant pleaded not guilty but at the resumption of the hearing on Thursday, he pleaded guilty.
This made the prosecuting council, T. M Iko bring forward a witness to shed more light on the case by presenting shreds of evidence.
Iko urged the court to convict the defendant and order the offender to return the total sum of $240,000 to the Meadery.
Justice A. T Mohammed who ruled over the case convicted and sentenced the culprit to one-year imprisonment and ordered him to return the money.
