Troops Neutralize Bandit, Recover Weapons Following Brigade Commander’s Visit to Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have neutralized a bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle with 39 rounds of ammunition during a fighting patrol along the Bandawa–Karim Lamido road in Taraba State.

The operation followed a strategic visit by the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, to Bandawa community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area. During the visit, the commander emphasized the need for increased troop presence and proactive measures to combat criminal activities in the region.


Acting on this directive, troops made contact with suspected bandits attempting to disrupt peace. A brief exchange of fire led to the neutralization of one assailant and the recovery of arms. Aggressive patrols have since been intensified in the area to reassure residents and sustain operational momentum.

In a related development, a peace meeting was held on 12 May 2025 in the palace of the Chief of Kashimbila, HRH Alhaji Zakeri Musa, to address growing tensions between locals in Kashimbila (Takum LGA, Taraba) and Jato Aka (Kwande LGA, Benue). The meeting included military and police representatives, youth leaders, and community members. Both sides agreed to maintain peace and end hostilities along the Kashimbila–Jato Aka road.

The 6 Brigade has reiterated its commitment to restoring peace in Taraba and called on the public to support security efforts with credible information.
