Nigeria Police Repatriate Escaped Turkish Fraud Convict
The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, has repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, to Turkey to serve his outstanding prison sentence.
Huseyin, convicted earlier this year by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court for fraud, fled Turkey shortly after the judgment to evade a sentence of 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days. He reportedly travelled through parts of the Middle East before arriving in Nigeria.
In July 2025, INTERPOL NCB Ankara issued a Red Notice seeking his arrest. Acting on the alert, INTERPOL NCB Abuja launched intelligence-led operations that led to his arrest in the Federal Capital Territory.
After completing all required documentation and working with international partners, authorities successfully repatriated Huseyin to Istanbul, where he will now commence his sentence.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the INTERPOL unit for its professionalism, stressing that Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives. He reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to upholding international obligations, strengthening cross-border policing cooperation, and supporting global efforts against transnational crime.
