BIRD FLU: GHANA BANS IMPORTATION OF ALL POULTRY PRODUCTS FROM THE NETHERLANDS, GERMANY, RUSSIA, DENMARK, AND UK
Ghana government has placed an immediate ban on the importation of all poultry products from Europe to curb the transmission of Bird Flu into the country.
Effective November 10, the importation of day old chicks, hatching eggs, frozen chicken, poultry products and poultry feed has been banned.
Since December 2019 some outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza caused by H5 subtype have been reported in Europe.
On November 11 2020, new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza was reported in wild birds and poultry in Germany, The Netherlands, and Denmark.
"The Ministry of Food and Agriculture upon advice from the Veterinary Services Directorate has placed on the importation of day old chicks, hatching eggs, frozen chicken, poultry products and poultry feed from the European countries with immediate effect," a statement from the ministry of Agriculture in the country read.
"Importers are to note that all import permits that were issued for such consignment from Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Denmark and United Kingdom have been rendered invalid with immediate effect."
