23 Dead, 108 Injured in Maiduguri Explosions — Police

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that at least 23 people were killed and 108 others injured following multiple explosions in Maiduguri on Monday evening.

According to police authorities, the blasts occurred around 7:24 p.m. and are suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers using improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Preliminary findings indicate that the attacks took place at several locations across the city, including the Maiduguri Central Market (Monday Market), the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover.

Security operatives, including Police Tactical Units, military personnel, and other agencies, were swiftly deployed to the affected areas, which were subsequently cordoned off to prevent further casualties. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams conducted detailed sweeps of the sites.

Emergency responders, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), evacuated victims to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, visited the scenes to assess the situation and commiserate with victims and affected families.

Authorities have since reinforced security presence across Maiduguri and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities.
