TWO CHILDREN AMONG THE 11 INJURED IN RWANDA’S GRENADE EXPLOSION
A grenade explosion has killed one person and injured 11 including two children in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, police have said.
The explosion occurred on May 7 about 1730 Hrs at a salon in Ndera Sector, Gasabo District.
According to the Kigali police, 2 of the hurt victims have severe injuries while the other nine suffered minor injuries.
The casualty has been identified as a 25-year-old male named Tunezerwe Jean Paul who is also suspected to be the one who detonated the grenade.
Police investigation reveals that the deceased had the grenade in his pocket when he was at the salon.
Here is the police account:
“The barber, Niyikiza,31 requested him to sit for his haircut, the victim said he was carrying something in his pocket, which he tried to show to the barber. Inside his pocket was a smoke-emitting grenade. On seeing the grenade, Nyikiza immediately told Tunezerwe to get out of the salon and in the process, the grenade detonated.”
The injured, including the two children aged 8 and 12 have been taken to the Military Hospital for treatment.

The Rwandan police have ruled out terrorism as the motive but are currently investigating the source of the grenade.
