ARMY CONVOY KNOCKS DOWN 75-YEAR OLD MOTORCYCLIST TO DEATH IN KATSINA
A Nigerian Army convoy has knocked down a motorcyclist to death in Katsina State.
The incident occurred at Mani House Junction, Katsina.
The motorcyclist identified as Salisu Ibrahim, 75, was said to be sharing wedding invitations on Monday evening when the accident happened.
According to an eyewitness, the convoy did not stop to check on the victim after knocking him down.
The army authorities has however confirmed the incident, saying it was an accident, and promised to take responsibility of the burial.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sagir Musa, said in a statement; “The convoy of the Commander, 17 Brigade NA, Katsina was involved in a road traffic accident today 29 June 2020 during which the death of a road user was recorded.”
He added that the incident occurred when the vehicles went to refuel and were expected to pick up the Brigade commander later.
“Already, a delegation of the Nigerian Army led by the Brigade commander has visited the family to commiserate with them and will be fully involved in the burial," Col. Musa said.
