Benue Community in Shock as Man Takes Own Life after selling land to multiple buyers.
A devastating incident has occurred in the Ayihe community, near the International Market in Makurdi, Benue State, where a middle-aged man identified as Tartor Ayihe took his own life by ingesting insecticide. The tragic event was triggered by a dispute over a plot of land that Ayihe had sold to three different individuals, sparking controversy and intervention from local leaders.
According to sources within the community, Ayihe had been summoned to a meeting at the residence of the Zaki (chief) to address the crisis and explain how he managed to sell the same plot to three different people. During the meeting, Ayihe requested to step out briefly, claiming he needed to retrieve something from his house. However, he instead went to three different provision shops, purchased insecticide, and returned home, where he drank the entire bottle.
When Ayihe failed to return to the meeting, the chief sent some people to his house, where they discovered his lifeless body, with the bottle of insecticide by his side. The community members rushed him to an undisclosed hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, stating, "We received the report this morning, and operatives have been dispatched to investigate the matter."
