BREAKING: NIGERIA FINES UK PLANE FOR 'CALLOUSLY' CONDUCTING FLIGHT OPERATIONS DESPITE LOCKDOWN RESTRICTIONS
The Federal Government has penalized a British airline, Flairjet, for conducting commercial operations despite the ban on air travels caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, disclosed this in a tweet, on Sunday, May 23 via his Twitter handle.
According to Sirika, the airline violated section 1.3.3 of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations 2015, and Nigerian Airline authorities have charged the company a fine of N500,000
"The maximum penalty for each is N500,000:00K. We caused them to pay and reported their callous misdemeanour to UK CAA, MFA and the UK High Commission". Sirika tweeted.
According to the Minister, the airline had earlier requested for permission for humanitarian flights, which was based on essential flights basically for transportation of cargo, medical evacuation, medical supplies and others, which was approved.
However, the airline was caught conducting commercial flights.
