SANWO-OLU APPEALS FOR RESUMPTION OF LAGOS - ABUJA FLIGHT OPERATIONS
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State has appealed to the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to allow the operations of Lagos - Abuja flight.
The Governor's decision was in response to the economic effect of airports closure on the State.
Recall, the Federal Government on March 23 shut operations of all international airports in Nigeria before it later ordered the ban of all local and international flights.
Sanwo-Olu, as a panellist emphasized this during a webinar hosted by First Securities Discount House (FSDH) Merchant Bank on Friday, May 22.
The webinar which was anchored by the Chairman, FSDH Merchant Bank, Hakeem Belo-Osagie, and the bank's Managing Director, Mrs Hamda Ambah, was titled 'A global pandemic: local realities and peculiarities - a view from the frontlines'.
Amongst those on the panellists were, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai; Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki ;Senior Lecturer and Consultant, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Dr Alero Ann Roberts; Director, Centre for International Development, Harvard University, Prof Aslim Ijaz Khwaja, and Assistant Professor, Harvard Business School, Dr Jaya Wen.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the entertainment, hospitality and Transportation industries have been affected by the ban on flights operations.
He emphasized that the aviation sector has suffered great, meanwhile the sector is a large employer of labour.
In the same vein, Sanwo-Olu said he had earlier spoken with a major player in the aviation sector, adding that he is planning to seek permission of the PTF to resume Lagos - Abuja flight operations.
He added that the State Government will not cease to appeal for the resumption other sectors.
