CJN SUMMONS JUDGES OVER CONFLICTING POLITICAL RULINGS IN RIVERS STATE
The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has summoned several federal and state high court judges connected to recent conflicting political rulings in Rivers State, initiating a formal investigation.
On Monday, Justice Kekere-Ekun convened with a National Judicial Council (NJC) panel at her office, directing an expedited inquiry with a deadline for the submission of findings by the end of the week. The NJC panel, chaired by a former Court of Appeal justice, will review the judicial handling of politically sensitive cases emerging from the feud between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesome Wike, his former political mentor.
Two high-ranking court heads are included on the NJC panel, strengthening its capacity to critically assess the conduct of the summoned judges. In addition, the CJN has called in the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for further questioning, scheduled for Tuesday.
While the Council has received numerous formal complaints, the CJN independently initiated the investigation in response to public concerns surrounding the contentious court cases.
