COURT VINDICATES OBASEKI OVER CERTIFICATE FORGERY
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Monday, June 29 struck out the suit filed against Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State over alleged forgery of university certificate.
The suit was filed on May 29, 2020, by Edobor Williams, Ugesia Godwin and Amedu Anakhu, seeking that the Governor should be disqualified from participating in the forthcoming Governorship election.
The plaintiffs accused the Governor of attaching a forged University of Ibadan certificate to his Form CF.001 which was submitted to INEC to enable him to participate in the September 19 election.
They argued that the Governor’s educational information contained in Part C of the Form CF 001 which he submitted to INEC on July 12, 2016, and the first-degree certificate of Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies, said to have been obtained from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, was forged.
The presiding Judge, Justice Anwuli Chikere, stuck out the suit despite the absence of the defendant’s lawyers and that of the plaintiff.
