COVID-19: FG Openly Solicits For Ventilators From American Billionaire on Twitter.
The Federal Government has come under intense Scrutiny and criticism on social media over its tweet openly soliciting for free Ventilators from Elon Musk to support treatment of the COVID-19 patients in Nigeria.
Ellon Musk, the Founder of SpaceX, had tweeted recently that his company has extra ventilators approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Tye United States to give out.
“We have extra FDA-approved ventilators. We will ship to hospitals worldwide within Tesla delivery regions. Only requirement is that the vents are needed immediately for patients and not stored in a warehouse.” The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning responded with this tweet: “Dear @Elonmusk @Tesla Federal Government of Nigeria needs support with 100 to 500 ventilators to assist with Covid19 cases rising every day in Nigeria.”
The Federal Ministry of health had since denied this report and the tweet deleted too.
Nigerians are however angry at the indiscretion of the ministry to openly beg for such and doing it via Twitter when it has several avenues to reach the billionaire within hours.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser, Media and Communications to the minister, Yunusa Abdullahi, said in a statement that the tweet was not done with the permission of the minister.
“An unauthorised post was made on the verified Twitter handle of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning. The fact of the post is regrettable because of which it is brought down.”
