Deadly Truck Collision Forces Cancellation of 2025 Eggon Carnival
The 2025 Eggon Carnival has been officially cancelled following a tragic multiple-vehicle accident involving three heavy-duty trucks that claimed several lives and left many others seriously injured in Nasarawa State.
The decision was announced in an emergency statement by the leadership of Ame Wo Ba Eggon (AWBE), citing the devastating impact of the incident on the Eggon community and the need to mourn the victims. According to preliminary reports, the fatal crash occurred earlier today when three trucks were involved in a catastrophic collision, resulting in confirmed fatalities and multiple casualties. The scale of the tragedy sent shockwaves across Nasarawa State and the wider Eggon nation.
Confirming the development, Navy Captain Mark Abashi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of AWBE, said the cancellation of the annual cultural festival was a difficult but necessary decision taken out of respect for the lives lost and those currently receiving medical treatment.
He noted that the Eggon Carnival, one of the region’s most significant cultural events, could not proceed in the face of such profound loss, as the community comes together to grieve and support affected families.
Further details on the incident and possible memorial arrangements are expected to be communicated by the organisers in due course.
