Delta Police Rescue Kidnapped Child, Arrest Suspected Cultist and Recover Firearms in Multiple Operations
The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in separate operations across the state, leading to the rescue of a kidnapped child, the arrest of suspected criminals, and the recovery of firearms and part of a ransom payment.
Operatives attached to the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS), Sector 2, Ughelli, rescued a three-year-old girl allegedly abducted by a commercial motorcyclist identified as Kelvin Ogaga.
Police authorities disclosed that the victim’s father reported the incident on May 18, 2026, stating that the suspect, who was responsible for taking the child to school daily, allegedly abducted her and demanded a ransom of N500,000 from the family.
Following negotiations, the family reportedly paid the ransom to secure the child’s release.
Acting on technical intelligence, operatives tracked the suspect to his hideout in Ughelli, where he was arrested. During the operation, officers recovered N127,000 believed to be part of the ransom money, valuables allegedly purchased with proceeds of the crime, and the motorcycle reportedly used during the abduction.
In another operation, operatives of the Department of Operations Buffalo Team recovered a Beretta pistol during a routine patrol along the Power Line axis near Bonsaac.
According to the police, officers noticed a suspicious man carrying a black bag. The suspect reportedly fled on sighting the patrol team and abandoned the bag while escaping.
A search conducted on the bag led to the recovery of one Beretta pistol and an iPhone, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Similarly, operatives of the Ozoro Division arrested a suspect identified as Michael Monday during a township patrol along Omovutotu Street in Ozoro.
Police said the suspect attempted to escape after noticing the patrol team. A search of a bag in his possession allegedly led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size single-barrelled gun and one cartridge.
Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspect to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Aro Bagger.”
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, reiterating the Command’s commitment to combating kidnapping, cultism, and other violent crimes across the state.
He also urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies and report suspicious activities within their communities.
