DEPUTY SENATE PRESIDENT, OVIE OMO-AGEGE CONDEMNS KILLINGS BY SARS OPERATIVES IN DELTA STATE

Ovie Omo-Agege, Nigeria's Deputy Senate President, has condemned the incessant killings of innocent citizens in Delta State by operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

In recent days, Nigerians have taken to social media to vent their anger and frustration towards the Federal Government over the incessant cases of killings, harassment, torture, illegal arrest, and extortion.

Omo-Agege said the recent killings by two SARS operatives on innocent citizens in Ughelli, Delta State, because they did not allow their phones to be searched is proof that there is an urgent need for comprehensive reforms and overhaul of security units in the country.

The Deputy Senate President urged the Police authorities to fish out the culprits and ensure they are prosecuted.

Agege, while urging security operatives to arrest the culprits, appealed to youth in the area to remain patient in the investigation process.

“Those authorized to bear arms and maintain law and order in the country ought to understand that such must be exercised with responsibility especially when human life is sacrosant.

“I hope those who are quick at pulling the trigger would adopt strategies that would foster mutual understanding between them and those they are tasked to protect, in their bid to save the lives of Nigerians,” he said.

Recall that Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday, October 4, responded to the outcry of Lagosians, and promised to address the issue of exploitation and corrupt practices of SARS operatives.

In the same vein, Nigeria's Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, responded by banning SARS operatives and other Tactical Squads of the Force, from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk duties.
