EFCC Nabs Chinese Siblings, Nigerian Accomplices Over Alleged Mineral Export Scam
Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested two Chinese nationals, Wang Jiang and Wang Richard, for allegedly attempting to export solid minerals without the required permits.
Jiang was arrested at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, while the other suspects, including two Nigerians—Donatus Agupusi and Michael Benneth Agu—were apprehended at the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.
Their arrest followed intelligence received by the Commission from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on November 3, 2024. Jiang was intercepted at the hold baggage screening point, where three separate pieces containing unidentified stones suspected to be solid minerals were found concealed in his luggage.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Agupusi, the owner of Great Wall Construction Limited, employs the other suspects. The findings also indicated that Jiang was attempting to take the minerals out of the country to conduct tests on them in China.
Further investigations confirmed that none of the four suspects possessed the necessary permits to export the minerals.
The suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
