END SARS: SECURITY AUTHORITIES ALLEGEDLY SEIZE THE PASSPORT OF LAWYER WHO ORGANIZED THE RELEASE OF PROTESTERS

There are strong indications that security operatives have seized the international passport of Modupe Odele, a lawyer who championed the endsars protests and secured the release of protesters.

Security authorities suspected to be men from the Department of State Security stopped Miss Odele who is popularly known on as Moe from travelling on Sunday, November 1.

Moe confirmed that she was stopped at the Airport on Sunday, but have not corroborated the report that her passport was seized.

“Hello everyone. Thank you so much. I’m fine and I’m safe. We haven’t confirmed yet why I was stopped on Sunday or by whom. But I’ve been invited back in with my lawyers today. I’ll update when I have more information but please don’t spread false news. That is dangerous,” Moe said.

Recall that Moe was the lawyer who organised several lawyers across the country to facilitate the release of End Sars protesters who were detained in police stations.

Although the reason for Moe’s ordeal with security agencies are yet unknown, many fear that it is connected to her involvement in the #endsars protest.

Reacting to this development, former presidential candidate Obiageli Ezekwesili accused president Muhammadu Buhari of trying to repress the rights of young protesters, adding that she has written to the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno demanding that Modupe Odele’s international passport be returned.

“What have I just read about @Mochievous ? Is the news accurate? Did the SSS under the supervision of @MBuhari @NGRPresident truly infringe Modupe Odele’s constitutional right to movement because she expressed her right to protest through #EndSARS? Is the news true?

I have written the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno of @NigeriaGov @MBuhari @NGRPresident to immediately retrieve the passport of @Mochievous Modupe Odele from the State Security Service and deliver it to her with apologies. Nigeria can never be a Police State.#EndSARS

How an administration of @MBuhari @NGRPresident @NigeriaGov that find themselves in a hole of trenchant dissatisfaction of citizens just keeps on digging deeper into the sea level is a wonder! You think repressing the rights of young #EndSARS

protesters is your solution? Haba."
