#ENDSARS PROTESTERS TO HOLD CANDLE LIGHT SESSION IN LAGOS TODAY

#EndSARS protesters in Lagos State are set to hold a candlelight procession on Friday night, October 16, in honor of all those who have died from extra judicial killings in Nigeria.


The protesters are going to hold the session at the Alausa area of the State, and the Lekki Toll Gate, which have been the main converging points for those who have been demanding justice for the deceased.


This is the 10th day since the youths began their protests against operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for extra judicial killings, harassment, extortion, and exploitation.


As of Tuesday, October 14, the Amnesty International reported that at least 10 people have died in protests over police brutality in Nigeria.

Recall, on Sunday, October 11, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, announced the dissolution of the unit.


On Tuesday, October 12, the IGP announced the creation of the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) to replace SARS.


Adamu said the new SWAT outfit will comprise of officers and men that will be selected based on clearly defined criteria and they will be specially trained in weapons handling and tactical operations.


The Police Chief said SWAT would fill the void left by SARS whose main role was tackling violent crimes especially armed robbery and kidnapping.
