#ENDSARS: SOLDIERS ASSAULT UNARMED PROTESTERS IN ABUJA

The #ENDSARS protest in Abuja, on Tuesday, October 13, went violent as soldiers harassed and brutalized unarmed protesters.


According to reports, phones and cameras of protesters were seized by the military in Abuja.


Sources say the cameraman for Arise TV was also attacked as he had his camera and microphone seized during the protest.


The protesters were said to have been heard telling the soldiers that they would not leave the assembly until they get the camera and other items seized by the officers.

The protesters who were not shot at, were seen on their knees lending their voices to fight against police brutality, extortion and extrajudicial killings.


President Muhammadu Buhari announced the official disbandment of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad on Sunday, October 11.


Nigerian youths did not back down as this is the fourth time in three years that the Government would announce the disbandment of the SARS unit.


The youths are urging the Government to carry out total reforms in the police that would put an end to cases of police harassment, extortion and extrajudicial killings.


The Nigeria police have so far killed 10 persons since the beginning of the protests against police brutality, and extortion perpetrated by the Special Anti Robbery Squad SARS which began last week, Amnesty Nigeria reported.
