Police Foil Illegal Arms Movement, Arrest Suspect Along Gusau-Funtua Road

Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles during a stop-and-search operation along the Gusau–Funtua Highway.

 

The arrest was made at about 12:00 p.m. on 11 January 2026 by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol attached to the Department of Operations, while on routine duties between Kotorkoshi and Tazame areas. The operatives intercepted a Golf vehicle with registration number ABUJA KUJ 893 CK.

 

A search of the vehicle led to the arrest of Samaila Na’ibi, a resident of Kuya Village in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, who was found in possession of two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles concealed in a sack. The vehicle was reportedly driven by Samaila Aminu from Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

 

Both suspects, alongside the recovered firearms and the vehicle, were taken into custody at the Kotorkoshi Divisional Police Headquarters. The case and exhibits are to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

 

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, psc+, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to curbing the spread of illegal firearms and maintaining peace and security across Zamfara State. He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security efforts.
