GUNMEN KILL 23 LOCAL VIGILANTES, RUSTLES CATTLE IN ZAMFARA STATE

Residents of Ruwan-Tofa village, Zamfara State, are in distress as unknown gunmen killed 23 local vigilantes, injured several others, and rustled cattle, in a fresh attack on the community.


The Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara State, Mohammed Shehu, confirmed the incident to reporters on today.


He said that the watchmen were killed during the attack carried out between Saturday and Sunday in Maru Local Government Area (LGA).

Shehu revealed that the gunmen invaded the village on Saturday and rustled several cows belonging to the villagers.


Local vigilantes were consequently mobilised to the scene and the gunmen opened fire on them, killing 10 on the spot.


The PPRO added that 13 others died from gunshot injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.


He said security operatives are on the trail of the gunmen, and six abducted persons have been rescued.
