FIVE FEARED DEAD, PROPERTIES DESTROYED AS TANKER EXPLODES IN BENIN
A tanker carrying Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) and traveling towards Benin along the Warri - Benin Road experienced a catastrophic event at the Ugbenu Koko Junction on the 1st of October 2023 at 0200hrs. The tanker overturned, causing its contents to spill into a nearby swamp. This spillage drew the attention of several young individuals who took advantage of the situation by attempting to collect the spilled fuel using jerry cans and other containers.
Tragically, during this process, an explosion occurred, resulting in a fire that quickly spread throughout the vicinity. Regrettably, this fire claimed the lives of five individuals among the group of youths who had gathered to collect the spilled fuel.
Additionally, the fire engulfed and damaged various properties, including the fallen tanker, eight buses of different makes, two additional tankers, five trailers, two motorcycles, one Siena space bus, and one 'C' Class Mercedes Benz car.
