
GOC Tours 28 Task Force Brigade, Seeks Enhanced Collaboration with Askira Emirate Council
The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, has commended troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade for their resilience and bravery in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.
Brigadier General Unachukwu made the remarks during a two-day operational visit to the Brigade Headquarters in Chibok and its affiliated battalions, including 115 Task Force Battalion Askira, 271 Tank Battalion Michika, and 144 Battalion Madagali.
During his visit on June 24, 2025, the GOC was received by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General O.A. Adejoro, who briefed him on the operational situation within the area of responsibility.
Addressing the troops, Brigadier General Unachukwu urged commanders at all levels to intensify efforts, remain proactive, and sustain offensive operations to neutralize insurgent threats. He also emphasized the need for continuous engagement with local stakeholders to foster strong civil-military relations as part of non-kinetic security measures.
As part of the visit, the GOC paid a courtesy call to the Emir of Askira, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Abdullahi Ibn Muhammadu Askirama, at his palace. The GOC expressed appreciation for the Emir's cooperation with the military, assuring residents of improved security, especially as the farming season progresses.
The Emir, while recounting past hardships caused by insurgent activities, praised the Nigerian Army for restoring peace in the area, stating that many displaced persons have returned to their ancestral homes. He commended the military’s sacrifices and prayed for fallen soldiers.
The visit also featured the commissioning of a newly renovated operations room at the Brigade Headquarters by Brigadier General Adejoro. The exercise was completed without incident.
