INTERPOL ARREST THREE CYBERCRIME SUSPECTS IN EDO

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Cybercrime Unit, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja have arrested three suspects for cybercrime-related offences in Edo State. 


The suspects, Samson Inegbenesun, 30, Blessed Junior, 32, and Muhammed Zakari, 39, were arrested at Uromi, Edo State, as investigations revealed that they were involved in fraudulent online procurement and supply of COVID-19 protective mask.

According to the Force,  investigation revealed that Samson Inegbenesun is an Internet fraudster and a member of a Turkey-based online scamming syndicate. 


"He supplies foreign and local accounts to receive fraudulent funds and use same as a conduit to other feeder accounts, the Police revealed, "the Police revealed. 


The Police said it had recovered a building worth N20m, a Toyota RAV-4 2015 model with N6.5m, and a Toyota Matrix 2020 model worth N2m from him.

"Blessed Junior, on the other hand, returned to Nigeria from Italy in February 2020 but maintained close contacts and Illicit dealings with his Italian associates," the Force said. 


The Force said he had made over N120m from Internet fraud and other cybercrime dealings and owns a filling station established with the proceeds of the crime. 


The third suspect, Mohammed Zakari,  is an expert in internet fraud, identity theft and impersonation, who falsely claims to be a British citizen. 


He posed to be one 'Kelly Galk' on online dating apps which he uses to carry out romance scams and defraud people, both in Nigeria and abroad. 


According to the Force, Zakari had made millions of naira from his illicit cybercrime transactions since he joined the syndicate.

The Police said all the suspects will be charged to court on conclusion of the investigation and prosecuted in line with the Cybercrime Prevention/Prohibition Act, 2015.
