Katsina Government Bans Fuel Sales in Jerrycans, Shuts POS Centres in Fresh Security Measures

The Katsina State Government has introduced a series of new restrictions aimed at curbing insecurity and disrupting the operations of bandits and other criminal groups across the state.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda announced the measures through an executive order issued following an emergency security meeting attended by security agencies, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders.

Under the new directives, the sale, purchase, transportation and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans have been prohibited statewide with immediate effect.

According to the governor, the measure is designed to prevent fuel supplies from reaching armed groups operating from forests and remote locations.

The government also ordered the immediate closure of all Point of Sale (POS) outlets and commercial phone-charging centres in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas.

Authorities said intelligence findings and security assessments suggested that some of the facilities had been exploited by criminal elements to facilitate communication and sustain their operations.

In addition, the executive order imposed a complete ban on the use of motorcycles in the two local government areas.

The state government explained that the restriction is intended to limit the mobility of bandits and kidnappers, who frequently rely on motorcycles to launch attacks and escape from security forces.

The latest measures form part of ongoing efforts by the Katsina State Government to strengthen security and curb the activities of criminal groups in affected communities.
