Lagos Police Arrest Most Wanted Killer Wasiu ‘Olori Eso’ Akinwande, Recover Cache of Weapons

In a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested the most wanted notorious killer and cult kingpin, Wasiu Akinwande, also known as “Olori Eso.” The 44-year-old suspect was apprehended in his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, on June 20, 2025, following a coordinated special operation code-named Silence, Speed, and Surprise carried out by the Command’s Tactical Squad.


Akinwande, described as one of the most vicious hired assassins in Lagos in recent times, is alleged to have led multiple gangs responsible for a string of cold-blooded murders, kidnappings, armed robberies, and cult-related killings across Mushin and other areas of the state since 2009. His decade-long reign of terror reportedly instilled fear and inflicted pain on countless families in the region.


The arrest follows years of surveillance and attempted captures by security operatives. Police raided Akinwande’s residence in Mushin, where a cache of sophisticated weapons and incriminating items were recovered. Items seized include:


Two (2) AK-47 rifles


One (1) K2 Assault rifle


One (1) Red Ryder rifle


Three (3) Pump action rifles


Two (2) Locally made single-barrel pistols


Five (5) Magazines


Fifty-seven (57) Live cartridges


Seventy (70) 5.56mm live ammunition


Twenty-seven (27) 9mm live ammunition


One (1) Expended 5.56mm ammunition


One (1) Dagger


Three (3) Walkie-talkies


Nine (9) International passports belonging to different individuals


According to the police, Akinwande confessed to using the recovered weapons for numerous coordinated attacks with his gang. His arrest has already led to four families identifying him as responsible for the killings of their children and wards.


The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to lead a team of detectives to widen the scope of the investigation and apprehend other suspects connected to Akinwande.


CP Jimoh commended the bravery and dedication of the Tactical Squad officers involved in the operation, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to assist the police in combating crime.


Akinwande remains in custody under tight security and will face prosecution for his crimes. The police assured that further updates will be made public as investigations progress.
