Lakurawa Network Suffers Heavy Blow as Kingpin Falls in Security Raid

A coordinated operation by security forces, including local vigilante groups, has led to the elimination of a notorious Lakurawa kingpin, Maigemu, in Kebbi State. A government official confirmed the development on Friday.

The Director of Security, Cabinet Office, AbdulRahman Usman-Zagga, announced the operation in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital. He explained that Maigemu was neutralized on Thursday in Kuncin Baba, Arewa Local Government Area, a remote location with difficult terrain, following a fierce gun battle.

“This achievement comes just a week after Governor Nasir Idris visited Bagiza and Rausa Kade communities in Arewa Local Government to sympathize with residents over the killing of six people by suspected Lakurawa cattle rustlers," Usman-Zagga stated.

He noted that the governor had assured the affected communities of increased security presence and enhanced strategies to combat criminal activities. “Today, those efforts have produced results with the elimination of this notorious figure. His remains serve as evidence of the success of this operation,” he added.

Usman-Zagga praised Governor Idris for his dedication to security and his continued logistical support for security personnel, especially those involved in special operations. He also urged residents to support security agencies by providing intelligence and reporting suspicious activities to promote lasting peace in the state.

The Lakurawa group, an armed network operating between Sokoto and Kebbi states, has been linked to criminal activities originating from Niger Republic, contributing to the escalating security challenges in the Northwest region.
