LATVIA SETS TO LAUNCH APPLICATION FOR COVID-19 CONTACT TRACING
Latvia is set to launch a smartphone app called Latvia's Apturi COVID (STOP COVID) for coronavirus contact tracing.
The application was created with the combined efforts of the U. S tech giants Apple and Alphabet's Google to help trace coronavirus cases.
Meanwhile, Singapore and Australia had earlier created an application for coronavirus contact tracing but was described "patchy" because Apple's iPhone does not support the use of Bluetooth short-range radio as a proxy for measuring the risk of infections.
The newly developed Latvia app supports 99 per cents of the world's smartphones.
It works on both iOS and Android operating systems.
According to Latvia, reliance on the new standard created by itself will ensure widespread adoption and also compatibility over time with contact tracing apps around the world.
After been tested, it was discovered that the application can not work in countries with more than 2 million people.
According to Latvia, other European countries like Germany, Switzerland and Estonia are working to make their national apps interact with each other across borders.
Following the development, travel restrictions will be of no need for Governments if the new app is adopted, said Latvia
