MAN BAGS TWO YEARS IMPRISONMENT OVER INTERNET FRAUD IN KADUNA
Justice A.A Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna, Kaduna State, has convicted and sentenced Destiny Maikarfi (a.k.a TudTech) to two years imprisonment for internet fraud.
He was jailed on Monday, October 30, 2023, after pleading guilty to one- count charge bordering on cybercrime.
The lone- count reads: “That you Destiny Maikarfi (a.k.a TudTech), between January to October, 2023 at Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, committed an offence to wit; falsely presented yourself as TudTech; a professional tech expert, capable of spying on mobile devices to one Toni Rae and which pretence you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
The suspect pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Based on the guilty plea, prosecution counsel, K.S Ogunlade, prayed the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.
Justice Isiaka thereafter convicted and sentenced Maikarfi to two years imprisonment or an option of fine of N150,000.00 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira Only).
The Judge also ordered the forfeiture of one Samsung Galaxy S8 used to carry out the offence to the Federal Government of Nigeria through the EFCC.
Maikarfi bagged his imprisonment when he was arrested by operatives of the EFCC, alongside some internet fraudsters at Malali Unguwan Gado, Kaduna State. He was investigated and found to be involved in internet- related crimes. He was thereafter charged to court and convicted.
