NAF Deploys Additional Aircraft to North-Central Region to Bolster Peace Efforts

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its operations in the North-Central region with the deployment of additional aircraft under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), aimed at restoring peace and curbing insecurity across the region.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, made this known during a visit to Tactical Air Command in Makurdi, where he assessed the operational capabilities of the newly deployed assets. He was joined at a high-level security meeting by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede; a representative of the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Olusegun Ferreira; and other key military commanders.

During the briefing, the Service Chiefs received updates on the intensified joint operations in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States. Air Marshal Abubakar stated that the deployment of additional air platforms has significantly improved the reach and impact of military operations in the region.

He noted that the new aircraft are providing real-time intelligence, close air support, and precision strikes against militia camps and criminal hideouts. “These operations are in line with the Federal Government’s efforts to stabilise the Middle Belt and demonstrate our firm commitment to safeguarding innocent lives,” he said.

The Service Chiefs jointly emphasized the importance of inter-service cooperation, stating that synergy among the Armed Forces remains essential for mission success. They assured the public that ongoing operations are part of a broader strategy to ensure citizens can live and work in safety.

Air Marshal Abubakar further reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment, declaring, “As long as peace is threatened, our resolve remains unshaken.”

The deployment marks a significant escalation in joint military efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore stability in Nigeria’s central corridor.
