Nation's Strength Lies in Military Capabilities – Rivers Administrator
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Retd), has emphasized that the strength of any nation is inherently tied to its military capabilities and its ability to defend territorial integrity. He made this assertion at the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Eid-El-Fitr Luncheon with troops at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground, Port Harcourt Barracks, on March 31, 2025.
Represented by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Prof. Ibiba Lucky Worika, the administrator commended the Nigerian Army (NA) as a globally respected force that has continued to evolve in warfare dynamics and operational preparedness despite prevailing economic and security challenges. He stressed that addressing the nation's security concerns requires both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches, acknowledging the troops' selfless sacrifices in protecting oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta Region (NDR). This, he noted, has contributed significantly to improved oil production and positive economic impacts.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, in his goodwill message, highlighted the significance of the 2025 Ramadan and Lenten seasons occurring concurrently, describing it as a valuable reminder of the importance of unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence as a nation. Represented by the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, NA, Major General Kevin Aligbe, the Army Chief underscored the need for personnel to embrace the NA’s core values, with selflessness as a fundamental pillar. He urged troops to uphold the spirit of sacrifice and patriotism in service to the nation while reiterating his commitment to strengthening operational capacity, troop welfare, and combat readiness.
The COAS also reminded troops of their responsibility to uphold national security, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s strategic objectives, which prioritize security and sustainable development.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, NA, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, expressed appreciation for hosting the luncheon, which he described as an avenue to honor the sacrifices of troops in the field. Represented by the Commander of 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, the GOC affirmed that the Division's operational activities have significantly impacted the nation's economy, evident in the surge in oil production quotas over a sustained period. He urged troops to maintain their momentum and reassured the people of the Niger Delta Region of the Division’s commitment to conducting operations in line with global best practices and the COAS Command Philosophy.
