NERC SUSPENDS ELECTRICITY TARIFF HIKE

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission NERC has temporarily suspended the hike in electricity tariff. 


In a statement published on its website on Wednesday, September 30, NERC ordered that discos halt the hike in electricity tariff for 14 days starting from Wednesday, September 30. 


"This Order shall take effect from September 28 2020 and shall cease to have effect on the October 11 2020," NERC said in a statement. 


Recall that the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC on Monday, September 2, suspended their planned nationwide strike action against the increase in electricity tariff and fuel hike. 


The trade unions agreed to halt their plans to down tools for the next two weeks, which would be spent working out modalities on how to cushion the effects on the vulnerable citizens.
