Niger Police, Military Deploy to Papiri After Abduction of St. Mary’s School Students

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the early-morning abduction of students from St. Mary’s Private (Catholic) Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara LGA.

According to the Command, armed bandits stormed the school’s hostel at about 2:00 a.m. on November 21, 2025, kidnapping an as-yet unverified number of students.

Police tactical units, alongside military personnel and operatives from other security agencies, have been deployed to the area and are currently combing surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the victims.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of the students and urged the public to remain calm while supporting ongoing security operations.

He also disclosed that the incident will be investigated, adding that appropriate action will be taken against the school management for violating the state government’s directive on school closure in the area due to existing security threats.
