Nigerian Army Rescues Eight Kidnap Victims Along Ikang–Cameroon Waterways
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 13 Brigade, operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Ikang, have successfully rescued eight civilians abducted by suspected militants along the Ikang–Cameroon waterways in Cross River State.
The rescue operation was carried out on December 29, 2025, following a distress alert from members of the local community. According to military sources, the assailants intercepted a commercial boat along the waterway and abducted eight passengers, including six adults and two minors.
Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, troops of the 13 Brigade immediately deployed to the area, launching a coordinated pursuit of the perpetrators while blocking suspected escape routes and asserting control over the waterways.
The prompt military response forced the militants to abandon their captives at the Ini-Abasi Fishing Port before fleeing into the creeks toward the high sea. The victims were subsequently recovered unhurt by the troops.
All rescued civilians were safely conveyed to the Brigade’s location, where they were properly documented before being released to their families. No casualties were recorded during the operation.
Following the rescue, troops intensified patrols across the waterways to prevent the fleeing militants from regrouping or carrying out further criminal activities.
The Commander of 13 Brigade, Brigadier General P. O. Alimikhena, commended the troops for their professionalism, swift response, and dedication to protecting lives and property. He also expressed appreciation to members of the local community for providing timely and credible intelligence that led to the successful rescue.
Brigadier General Alimikhena reassured residents of the Brigade’s continued commitment to sustaining aggressive patrols and denying criminal elements freedom of operation within the area. He urged the public to continue supporting security agencies with useful and timely information.
