NO CHIBOK GIRL WAS RESCUED IN OUR RECENT OPERATION - CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF, LUCKY IRABOR

Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lucky Irabor, has said no Chibok was rescued in the Army's recent operations in the North-Eastern region.

Last week, it was reported that some of the abducted Chibok girls were rescued last Friday following a series of operations in sambisa forest.

It was reported that Halima Ali Maiyanga, one of the girls who allegedly escaped, told her family in a phone call that she was one of the abducted girls who were able to flee when the Nigerian Military invaded Sambisa forest and engaged Boko Haram terrorists.

However, while speaking with newsmen late on Sunday, the Service Chief who paid an operational visit to the theatre command of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri, debunked the report, stressing that no Chibok girl was in the custody of the military.

“We do not have any of the Chibok girls in our custody, so if they are not with us we have nothing to confirm again. It was the desire of the military to get the Chibok girls back safely and if our operations have helped those said to have escaped, I think we are glad,” he said.

On April 15, 2014, about 276 female students were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists from a secondary school in the town of Chibok, Borno State, Nigeria.
