NSA Hands Over 128 Rescued Kidnap Victims to Zamfara Government
The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has formally handed over 128 kidnap victims rescued from bandits’ camps in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State to the state government.
The handover took place in Abuja on Tuesday, with the National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka, presenting the victims to the NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
According to Laka, the victims were freed during two phases of coordinated security operations earlier in August. The first group, rescued on August 14, consisted of 42 persons — 14 males, 27 females, and one infant. The second operation on August 19 secured the release of 88 individuals, including 34 males and 54 females.
He, however, disclosed that one child among the second group died from an illness likely linked to the harsh conditions of captivity. Additionally, one of the rescued women gave birth prematurely and the newborn is receiving medical care.
Since their release, the victims have been under the care of ONSA, receiving medical attention, psychological support, and rehabilitation. They have now been transferred to the Zamfara State Government for reintegration with their families and communities.
