Troops Neutralize 13 Terrorists in Failed Ambush at Kareto, Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, repelled a Boko Haram/ISWAP ambush at Kareto in Borno State, killing 13 terrorists and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition.

The attack occurred along the Gubio–Damasak road while the troops were escorting humanitarian aid trucks. The insurgents had detonated two command Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) before opening heavy fire on the convoy.

According to military sources, the troops responded swiftly, overwhelming the attackers with superior firepower. Thirteen terrorists were neutralized on the spot, while others fled in disarray.

During the clearance operation, troops recovered eight AK-47 rifles, ten magazines, a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition, primed IEDs, detonating cords, camel bags, and other logistics items belonging to the insurgents.

One soldier sustained minor injuries during the encounter, while four Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle tyres were damaged and two trucks caught fire. Despite the attack, the humanitarian supplies were secured and successfully delivered to Damasak.

Military authorities confirmed that deliberate operations have been intensified in the area to deny the terrorists freedom of action and ensure the safety of relief efforts.
